Romanian Dairy Sector Gets European Funds to Recover from Lockdown



Necessary help for the cattle market
Under the European scheme State aid Temporary Framework, released on the 20th of March 2020, member states affected by the COVID-19 outbreak may seek financial support. Romania’s cattle industry recently benefited from the mentioned fund, and grants for the farmers will be channeled until the end of December 2020.
The overall sum, dedicated to this purpose is €7.4 million. A particular beneficiary can advantage up to €100,000, as rules of the Framework state. Over a thousand bovine breeding companies will advantage from the European support.
Romanian dairy industry
Romanian dairy industry, in 2019 provided as little as 0,7% of total EU’s milk deliveries. Dairy exports contributed an account of 0,3% of EU dairy exports in the marketing year 2019. In the time span between January and July 2020, Romanian drinking milk production significantly increased, by +11,1%, comparing to the 2019 marketing year. At the same time, domestic butter production got up as well, ending up on 7 million tonnes of butter produced in the first half of 2020.
