  • Thailand plans to achieve a rice export target of 8.5 million tons in 2025.
  • The key markets remain Indonesia, the Philippines, China, and the US, where demand is stable and growing.
  • In the first seven months of 2025, the country already exported 5.1 million tons, which represents a year-on-year increase.
  • Competitive prices and strong demand in Asia are expected to ensure that the export plan is achieved despite global challenges.

Thailand bases rice export plan on markets of greatest importance

Thailand, one of the world’s largest rice exporters, has confirmed that it plans to meet this year’s overseas sales target of 8.5 million tonnes. According to government and industry officials, the strategy focuses on strengthening its presence in markets with stable demand, such as Indonesia, the Philippines, the United States and China.

The authorities emphasise that despite changing weather conditions and global trade tensions, demand for Thai rice remains high. Especially important are contracts with Asian countries, which account for the largest share of imports.

Rice exports supported by strong demand in Asia

Thailand exported around 5.1 million tonnes of rice in the first seven months of 2025, up from the same period last year, the data shows. Indonesia and the Philippines remain the largest buyers, where rising demand for rice is driving imports.

The Thai government and industry associations are confident that focusing on the main markets will guarantee sales stability and enable the export target to be met by the end of the year. The continued price competitiveness of Thai rice against other Asian suppliers is an added advantage, experts say.
