Hello Partners!

Are you ready for the freshest news from Plant-based Industry?

Aqua should normally be slowing down now as fish go into a kind of hibernation for the winter and eat less, as well as reduced herd size of swine and bovine means less qty of feed needed. However, after a few more quiet months, the P-B market seems to be picking up. Especially, as the dairy industry is steadily climbing.

Let’s check out more info!

Proteins

Increased activity on the Potato Protein (feed grade) market can be observed. The interest is mainly in 25 kg bags, which can be hard to obtain now. It might drive the prices further up. This is an interesting situation, bearing in mind that there are big tenders for Potato Protein (feed grade) taking place, but the price point is low. There is also a big demand for Potato Flakes with no additives.
Producers of milk replacers are also looking for products high in protein that might be used in their mixes to fight the increases in the price of milk derivatives.
Due to the surge in prices of WPC and WPI  (whey proteins), producers of Sport Nutrition are trying to find cheaper alternatives in the form of Soy Protein Isolate and Pea Protein Isolate.

Starches

Producers and distributors of the VWG Food are predicting prices will rise in January, but from what we see here, there is not a lot of demand. Price is king: we can close deals for Q4 at 1550 and less, but above that, there is no demand for FTLs. EXW prices from Germany are at best 1450 EUR/MT ExW.
Even though the prices for food VWG might not be rising, we see increases for feed grade. Aquafeed buyers are also looking for CGM.Modified corn starch (E1422) demand is starting to pick up for Q1/Q2, but Native Starches prices are falling, except for Potato Starch.

Sweeteners

Some market participants fear the increase in dextrose due to the lack of corn on the market. However, others want to get rid of cheaper alternatives from Asia and might lower the bids.
There is an unwavering demand for sugar. Nevertheless, we see more offers on the market and thus many expect prices to be lower soon. Anyway to have Christmas full of sugar, don’t hesitate to contact us!

What else?

Netherlands – The strikes in Cargill’s factories in the Netherlands might have an influence on CGM prices.

Sweden – Sweden’s largest egg producer, which had nearly 20% of all laying hens in the country, has been ordered to euthanize all of them so the facility can be fully cleaned.

USA – U.S. wheat shipments typically weaken at this time of year as soybean exports take the stage, but last week’s decline was unprecedented.

Brazil – Smaller corn and wheat crops are forecast for Brazil in the 2023-24 marketing year, but rice production is expected to increase, according to a Global Agricultural Information Network report.
