Polish cheeses are conquering the world
Poland has become one of the leading cheese producers in the world, with a record production of cheese and cottage cheese in 2022 – up to 992,000 tons. Since joining the European Union in 2004, this production has grown steadily, and the forecasts for 2023 are even more promising. Poland is currently the fourth largest cheese producer in the EU and ranks fifth in the world ranking of producers, just behind the USA.
The EU countries, in particular Germany, Romania, Italy and the Czech Republic, were the main buyers, but 15,000 tons also went to countries outside the EU, above all to the United Kingdom and Ukraine. The production structure is dominated by cottage cheese with a share of 52%, rennet cheese accounts for 39% and processed cheese for 8%. The increase in production goes hand in hand with a steady trend towards expanding the product range, both for matured cheeses and cottage cheese.
Forecasts for Polish cheese exports
The forecasts for 2023 indicate a continuation of the upward trend in Polish dairy exports, which is confirmed by the data for the first eight months of the year. Poland sold 88,000 tons of fresh cheese, whey cheese and cottage cheese, an increase of 3% compared to the previous year. Poland is proud to be shaping the global dairy landscape and the taste of Polish cheeses is gaining more and more fans both in Europe and abroad.
