In the first week of September, the Agricultural Foundation for the Development of Argentina (Fada) showcased the results of the first Monitor of Agroindustrial Exports, a study that from now on will be carried biannually and that aims to cover the current situation and perspectives of agricultural markets. Taking into consideration the first half of 2020, as the coronavirus pandemic was ongoing – data collected by FADA are particularly interesting. Respecting social distancing measures presentation of the report took place on Zoom and YouTube platforms.

190 data, 19 agro-industrial complexes, and 10 indicators were presented. Among many other indicators that will be provided in future Monitors, and were present in this one were: Exports in dollars, Share of exports in dollars, Main products exported by complex, Destination concentration, Export duty contributions, International insertion, Concentration of origin, Export price, World Market, Market share and position of Argentina in the world.

As collected data shows, agro-industrial exports reach 74% of the country’s total exports. Of which, 70% were granary chains, 15% regional economies, 8% meat, 2% dairy, and 5% other products. The most imported commodity is soybean oil, taking over 38,4% of imported goods, and one of the biggest markets that supply Argentinian soya is China. Argentina states itself as the world-leading exporter of flour, yerba mate, and beans.

FADA specialists are questioning the future of global trade as a country’s economics will change drastically after months dedicated to the fight with the COVID-19 pandemic. The next months of 2020 are forecasted to be more beneficial in terms of export for the Argentinian industry.
